i remember my seeing my buddy the next moring in the hall at high school, walking towards me with this shit eating grin, "branford marsalis came out during eyes of the world, it was mind blowing, and then they did dark star"......i was crushed.

yeah i was going to the show that night but i knew i had missed "THE ONE.".....
oh man! i was so jealous of that shit eating grin! that kid was so happy....he was just so elated like he been taken to the moon or something....the dead -- it;s truly love or hate it seems. but the moments they could give you....NOTHINK like it ....

watching it now, after i have heard it 100 times in the mid 90s and not since....it still conjures the same feelings but, as much as jerry is a seasoned pro at this point and knows COLD what he is doing, he would have taken....branford.....to school '73-'77....sorry kids, it's true i was introduced to this music in 89/90....and this was like the pinnacle of what i could have experienced first hand.....but this is not jerry at the true height of his powers...he was a demon pre 1980, he's a bit of a playful yoda on this video.

branford is a great improviser, but in those great "eyes" years, he would have just dismissed branford's runs in an instant....really, it's part of the pain.....HE WAS THAT GOOD

"He Live's:"
I hear what you're sayin', but keep in mind there is one other element at work here: Jerry was an incredibly humble individual. He would never "step on" anybody that was a guest in his Home. ...regardless, you're right about those "Eyes" during that other era...at times simply majestic.

I hope you still got to see some great shows --- AshesRising
